Theists, Atheists and Agnostics

If you attempt to google curious, images of Curious George will litter the pages.  If you attempt to google curiosity it will be pages of space exploration sprinkled with negative images.  The negativity is that by being curious the person is nosy, sticking their nose where they should not and their curiosity is what “killed the cat”.  It’s no wonder then why people feel the need to be “right” for to say “I don’t know” or “I am curious” is to have your nose cut off by a monkey and sent to mars!

The negativity crescendos when googling Theists, Atheists and Agnostics!  There is some very unkind dialogue about who is the most foolish, the most stupid, or the most cowardly.  So what is this all about?  Why THIS topic?  The reply to both questions is to seek (avoiding the C word).

What are we talking about?  The most concise explanation to explain these views seemed simple.

Theists believe there is a God. Atheists do not believe god(s) exists.  Agnostics believe they don’t know for certain.

So who are these people?  What are they doing?  How do they live? What do they think?  Like most of us, research begins with conversations amongst friends, and then swept out to various community circles.  What was interesting, if the debate over who or what is “right” was removed, there was much common ground.

The question asked was “how do you live?”  This is displayed by ACTIONS not BELIEFS.   So we discussed the real brass tacks of daily living.

Warm, loving, caring and nurturing.

Raise their children to be considerate and kind.

Takes personal responsibility for their lives.

Wants to have a positive impact on their community.

Often involved in community causes they believe in.

They do not believe the world is out to get them.  The world is.  Things happen.

Accept the world is hostile.  They chose to be kind.

Are thoughtful in their actions and apply intellect to situations in a rational approach.

Are often joyful and experience joy.

Agree that base human instincts are inherently selfish and those who react from their base nature are an irritant (some explicit choice words were thrown in here).

Is this a general description of:

a. Theists

b. Atheists

c. Agnostics

d.  All of the above

Research showed we have a lot we agree on, in terms of how we live our daily life. That our actions speak to who we really are.  They reveal the honest motivations of our inner most self.

Edited from Awesome Life Tips:

Be curious and compassionate when it come to other people.  Curious is the KEY word.  It’s impossible to fear or hate anyone or anything you truly understand, so seek to understand others.

Is it possible to understand others unless we first seek to understand self?

“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

How people act is where the rubber meets the road. Beliefs many times translate into behaviors… negative and positive. I am responsible for my own soul. Therefore, as much as an imperfect human being can, I try to mold my beliefs into kind acts. I talk of God and share how my life has become because of my beliefs. I attempt to model positives. If others see positives, chances are it will reflect in their lives in some way, whatever their beliefs.
