The Excellence of Bodhichitta

The ego has done some very cruel things. My ego has reacted with anger, and fear at times, to your ego. These egos believe they are right and have justified their actions in the name of “rightness”. Egos harm. They make others wrong. I am learning to forgive my ego for the harm it has caused. I have already forgiven your ego. I forgive you. I wish you well.

The high love vibration people already understand those with the strongest egos need the most love and the most forgiveness. A person who discovers love will stop their ego attacks which is the source of all suffering.
Dormant egos do not attack. A dormant ego allows space for so much positive works in the world. The stronger the ego, the lower the love vibration of a person.
The strong egos are never happy; always in conflict with self, or someone, or something. The strong egos destroy love, pulls it apart, separate from it and are often ignorant to what love really is.  They live in fear most often and yet will declare their fearlessness.
Egos lash out, attack, belittle, talk about, hate, plot against, justify, gossip, feel superior to and commit all sorts of heinous and hostile acts; often times without even realizing it.
The ego reads this and thinks of all the other egos this relates to but can not admit it also relates to itself. We are all these things. We are all these things when our ego dominates our lives.
Some of us are awake and we flicker between love and ego.
Some of us are asleep and this makes absolutely no sense.
Some of us are awakening.  We may cringe to remember all the havoc our own ego has manifested.  We desire to correct those errors.
Some of us have all but released our ego.  We’ve given up most material possessions and committed ourselves to a life of love and service.
We are all on different journeys and we all (the strong ego and the dormant ego and everything in between) serve our purpose.
If we are not helping others, then we are helping them grow with our strong egos which can teach them how to say NO, how to forgive, how to accept, how to let go and how to move on.
The strong ego has no understanding of these higher callings and can only fake connection; which is lonely and a dark place to live.  It needs more excitement, more fame, more fortune, more adulation, in order to feed its insatiable appetite. The more it acquires the emptier it all feels. Life itself seems to become meaningless and the attack upon other egos is the only thing that seems to bring back its pulse.
So the ego attacks and absorbs whatever it can, taking, defeating, fighting anything that questions its reality.  Some die this way.  Poor relations. Poor health. Bitter. Dark. Cold.
Some awaken. This is all a personal choice. What a wonder to recognize we have a choice. For some of us, yes it can seem unfair and hard once we are awakened. Yet, think of how sweet those kisses can be. The wonder of the color in a flower. The movement we feel when we connect with another. The joy at living in a moment. To be present. To be alive.
To feel the wonder of every emotion. To learn to sit with all feelings neither judging them as good or bad, right or wrong, but simply to just be.
To just be in a blissful state of being. No fear. No negative self talk. To chase this feeling is another ego mission. To sit with life as it comes. To recognize it will change and morph. To accept deeply that each moment will pass and a new moment will appear. This is the higher vibration of pure love.
When we see a situation that our ego is struggling with. We can sit and relax. We can stop fighting what is for that is where suffering is born. We can breath. We may be afraid and we breath. We may feel less than or fear; we still breath. We say over and over and over “I choose Love. I choose Joy.”
As we redirect our thoughts to love and joy, we start to feel their presence in our life. We start to feel something larger, more vast, more powerful come into our life force. We recognize this ego struggle is small compared to the powerful vastness of love. That all things we’ve ever faced, we have survived so proof in itself we are ok right now. This too shall pass.
The thing we must accept to avoid suffering, is “it” may come to pass in ways our ego finds unsatisfactory.
We can dwell on this ego judgment and we will suffer. If we do just notice this and do not judge. We are a work in progress. We serve a purpose because we show others what it looks like to suffer. When and if we are ready, we can choose to accept. Is it fair? Perhaps or perhaps not. Of the 7 billion on this planet how many do you think believe it’s been fair? Fair is a fairy tale. There is no fair. There just is.  What if we could see these unfair events in our life as a blessing?  Then we will start to lay our ego to rest and awaken our deep love and this is the essence of bodhichitta.
“An analogy for bodhichitta is the rawness of a broken heart.  Sometimes this broken heart gives birth to anxiety and panic, sometimes to anger, resentment, and blame.  But under the hardness of what armor there is the tenderness of genuine sadness.  This is our link with all those who have ever loved.  The genuine heart of sadness can teach us great compassion.  It can humble us when we’re arrogant and soften us when we are unkind.  It awakens us when we prefer to sleep and pierces through our indifference.  This continual ache of the heart is a blessing that when accepted fully can be shared with all.” Pema Chodron, The Places That Scare You.
