Any Lengths
Who among us cares to go to ‘any lengths’ to change? We sit. We think. We wish. We talk. We fantasize about. We do the same thing. We fail. We do it again. We think. We wish. We ‘try’. We fantasize. We fail.

Went to Bikram Yoga today. 100 minutes of yoga at 100 degrees. People ask “why did you do that”? Jumped out of an airplane and people said “why jump out of a perfectly good airplane”? Swam with sharks in the Philippines. Tried rattlesnake for the first time. When I was younger my idea of fun was the Breakers in Palm Beach, crisco for suntans, lemon juice for blond hair and sneaking a pack of smokes (perhaps other things too). Now I prefer tent camping in the mountains, a good french press, and farm grown food (DORK)! What changes over time that twists and turns our lives into something better, different or into a life we no longer recognize?
They are everywhere. Perfect images. The happy family on the cover of a magazine. The perfect body as we stand in the grocery isle. A greeting card showing us the perfect marriage. The perfect ‘image’ to sell us the ideal of ‘happy’.
“Mirror Mirror on the wall”. What if the reflection we see in the mirror is a distortion? What if the image looking back at us is not the image the rest of the world sees? How can this happen? How can we align our self image with the image we portray to the world? (more…)
When we fight ‘what is’, we delay what can be. I strive to focus on moving forward. When things end, as they often do, I am quick to look for a way to reinvent myself. I have done this many times throughout my life. It is a scary process to reinvent ourselves. It is a scary process to start something new. It is a scary process to be a beginner.
“Do one thing every day that scares you.” – Eleanor Roosevelt.
When we stifle emotions we don't want to feel, we also numb out the 'good stuff'. When we embrace our fears, our uncomfortably, and our insecurities we have breakthroughs. "The biggest breakthroughs in consciousness occur when things are difficult; when we have a choice to…
“Child of light/joy/creativity, you know not that the light/joy/creativity is in you. Yet you will find it through its witnesses, for having given light to them they will return it. Each one you see in light brings your light closer to your awareness….. Love always leads to love.” Course In Miracles.
We all carry the spark of creativity within us. When I don’t fret over my physical form, my ego demands and materialism and just focus on my creativity, my connections with others and my inner state … life is a beautiful place.
To share joy is to keep it alive, to allow it to grow, to help spark it in others. When we are joyful we pull others into our joyful orbit.
“Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn. The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and prejudices and the acceptance of love back in our hearts. Love is the essential reality and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.” – Marianne Williamson.
Is hypocrisy a state that anyone really escapes? We may have high ideals and yet how many of us live up to them? Some of those rare beings have their ideals realized. In deed they are rare. How often are their GREAT WORKS held up as the ideal; to lord over those who do not live up to this high ideal. Instead we could recognize just how rare these great qualities are. It is wise to remember our dual personality. That we are filled with the light of consciousness and that it is housed in a primitive body requiring base needs for sustenance. (more…)
I believe there is a light within us all that is a perfect reflection of higher consciousness. We have the power to fan the flames of joy in each other or to spread the darkness of ego. If we support, love and practice tolerance with one another then we can strengthen our own inner light and perhaps provide the kindling to strengthen the inner light of another.
