Going With The Flow

L-52

“Everything in the universe has a purpose.  Indeed, the invisible intelligence that flows through everything in purposeful fashion is also flowing through you” – Wayne Dyer.

We drove five hours to go to the beach.  Three adults shepherding five children, to a half mile treck, to the goal of our adventure.  Twenty minutes into the frolic, lightening shot across the sky.  The children and I were consumed with frightened laughter.  We were happy.  Rain pelted down so hard it felt like ice shards slapping into our skin.  This effect quickened our pace.  The children used this wondrous opportunity to puddle jump.  As I listened to their giggles, and enjoyed their elation at this new sport, it occurred to me this is what life is all about.

What if we accepted all the storms in our life as an opportunity for a new adventure!  What if we were childlike in our wonder of embracing the new gifts a storm can bring; like being able to jump in puddles.

Life can certainly catch us off guard.  We fall into a rhythm.  Then, out of now where, lightening strikes.  It cuts us to our core.  It is during these times we are disrupted out of the doldrums of our normal routine.  We are called to action.  We are asked to rise up to the challenge.  We are given the opportunity to transform.

Do we hang on to what was and suffer?  Do we wish for what could have been and suffer?  Do we think about what we had and suffer?  There is another choice.  Embrace the change.  Let go of what was, what could have been, and what we had.

Instead we can choose to embrace what we are given.  A new opportunity.  An opportunity through disruption to see things differently.  A transformational moment to reinvent ourselves and experience life in a different way.

This sounds great if we are poor and hit the lotto or sick and find a cure.  The challenge is to have this same attitude when we perceive we have lost something valuable.  The key is to see the value in the new process.  This is almost impossible at first, as we recover from the shock from what WE THINK we’ve lost.  However, if we choose to believe in the process, then as we heal, we can see the precious moments in our new life.  This will happen if we choose to embrace the process and go with the natural flow of life.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” – Lao-Tzu
