A prostitute and the message of tolerance

Forshelovedmuch

I believe there is a light within us all that is a perfect reflection of higher consciousness. We have the power to fan the flames of joy in each other or to spread the darkness of ego.  If we support, love and practice tolerance with one another then we can strengthen our own inner light and perhaps provide the kindling to strengthen the inner light of another.

The Course of Miracles on TOLERANCE:  “Mindful teachers do not judge.  To judge is to be dishonest, for to judge is to assume a position you do not have.  Judgment without self-deception is impossible.  Judgment implies that you have been deceived in your brothers.  How, then, could you not have been deceived in yourself? Judgment implies a lack of trust, and trust remains the bedrock of the teacher of mindfulness’ whole thought system.  Let this be lost, and all this learning goes.  Without judgment are all things equally acceptable, for who could judge otherwise?  Without judgment are all men brothers, for who is there who stands apart?  Judgment destroys honesty and shatters trust.  No teacher of mindfulness can judge and hope to learn.”

I believe this message is captured in Jesus’ actions in Luke 7:36-50.

36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.

39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”

44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

Therefore, I believe if we work to value the light within each of us, then we learn to value the light within ourselves and allow it to grow in our actions.

Today, I will look for ways to fan the light of love and tolerance in all my brothers and sisters.
